Dear Fellow Believer,

Are we going to have a state church?

Can I get arrested for mowing my lawn on a Saturday? Or a Sunday?

Are Baptists going to get drowned again?

These are a few of the many questions I have heard from skeptical Christians regarding the idea of Christian Nationalism. What does it mean to have a Christian Nation? How do we build it? How do we determine if a particular law is biblical or not? These are all great questions.

In future letters I will demonstrate how our Christian ancestors have already answered these questions and more. Today I want to talk to you about something else entirely. I want to talk to the Christians that believe it’s too late. Our time in the sun has set, our ship has sailed. God’s judgment against this country is imminent and there’s nothing we can do about it.

These pessimistic Christians make a compelling case. Look at what Paul says in Romans! God has given our degenerate neighbors over to the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves. They exchanged the truth of God for lies, they worship a trans-affirming, reality denying god crafted in the image of their own dishonorable passions. Why do you think everything is getting worse and worse? God is letting their depravity manifest so he can then bring his righteous judgment and destroy this once great nation.

Build a Christian nation? Not only can it not be done, your efforts will be ruined in the wake of God’s imminent and righteous judgment. Preach the gospel and brace for impact.

That makes a lot of sense. Why build a Christian Nation if we’re going to be destroyed anyway? Why polish the brass on a sinking ship?

Here’s a better question; what if God’s impending judgment is in fact coming, and the first group God’s going to punish is his own people?

The American Church is largely apathetic towards affecting public morality. There’s a lot of reasons for this apathy. Personally, I blame Ron Paul. The Libertarian idea, “whatever you do with your body is your business” was not a conservative conviction until the 2000’s. I appreciate Paul’s efforts to focus conservatives on ending endless wars and enabling fiscal responsibility, but gay marriage would not have happened without Libertarians pretending that the more conservatively correct posture was to stay out of it.

“Hey man, you do you and I’ll do me, man!”

In one generation, Conservatives adopted a public policy of “Do what thou wilt”. This abhorrence of a moral standard is easily refuted with Scripture, but Conservatives had long ago stopped bringing their Bibles to public debates. Libertarians helped Conservatives feel like their lack of biblical convictions in the public sphere is a righteous, enlightened good instead of the cowardice that it actually is,and for which God will judge us.

Speaking of the Bible, when God brings judgment who does he judge first? If you really believe that God’s judgment on this country is imminent, dear believer, should we perhaps repent and try to assuage God’s wrath? If not for your hell-bound neighbor, for yourself? For your kids?

Fellow believer, I fully agree with Christian Nationalism’s detractors who say that what we really need in this country is repentance, revival. And God is more than capable of bringing this about!

Didn’t the entire city of Nineveh repent at Jonah’s preaching? Israel’s sworn enemy of Assyria lost their capital city to a sweeping revival honoring Israel’s God. (Interesting too how Jonah was hoping for their destruction, and was upset at their repentant response).

Didn’t Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego overturn a giant state religion with one act of obedience (and civil disobedience)? They refused to bow and an entire empire’s cult of personality went out the window.

I still want to answer your burning questions, fellow believers. But first, won’t you pray with me?

Dear Heavenly and Holy Father,

Please forgive us. Every single blessing that you have given us, we’ve taken for granted. We’ve done worse than that. We believe that the reason we’ve been so blessed is because of false idols. We scoff at your laws. We join pagans when they defame your scriptures. We’re embarrassed by your precious words.

Lord, we deserve every ounce of wrath you’ve sought to lay up against us. Every ounce. We mock you, we promote degeneracy across our borders. How much longer can you look the other way, Lord?

Please have mercy. Holy Spirit, please draw us to repentance. Your scriptures teach that the king’s heart runs through your hand. Please turn the heart of this nation towards you. Not for our sake. For your sake, oh Lord. You can make the rocks cry out to give you praise. Carve out the rocks from our hearts Lord! Give America a heart of flesh, that we can turn from our wicked ways.

You are so good, you love to grant mercy Father God. Please have mercy on this wretched nation. Turn us so that we can give you glory. Please draw our tears of repentance, do not unfurl your righteous hand of wrath. Please forgive us Lord. Amen.

Sincerely,

Your Local Christian Nationalist
